Determining Ready-to-Use Costs from Concentration

Instructions : Divide dilution into cost per gallon.

Examples:

  1. 1:64 dilution selling at $12.50 per gallon – $12.50 ¸ 64 = .195 or 19.5 cents per RTU gallon.
  2. 1:10 dilution selling at $7.30 per gallon – $7.30 ¸ 10 = .73 or 73 cents per RTU gallon.

Figuring ounces per gallon (when given dilution ratio)

Instructions : Divide 128 (ounces) by ratio.

Example:

  1. Dilution ratio 1:32 (128 ¸ 32 = 4 oz. Per gallon)

One Gallon = 4 quarts, 8 pints, 16 cups, 128 oz.
One Quart = 2 pints, 4 cups, 32 oz.
One Pint = 2 cups, 16 oz.
One Ounce = 2 tablespoons, 6 teaspoons
One Tablespoon = 3 teaspoons

3 teaspoons =1 tablespoon = 15ml

Figuring the Dilution Ratios (when given ounces per gallon)

Instructions : Divide concentrate oz. Per gallon into 128 (There are 128 oz. Per gallon).
Example : 3 oz. Per gallon dilution
(128 ¸ 3 = 42.66 or 1:43).

Note: It may be necessary to first convert dilution to oz for 1 gallon.

Example : 10 oz. per 5 gallon (10 ¸ 5 = 2) or 2 oz. per gallon.
Now divide oz. per gallon into 128
128 ¸ 2 = 64 or a dilution ratio of 1:64

Parts Per Million (P.P.M) of Active Disinfectant in Various Use-Dilution Ratios:

Multiply percentage of active disinfectant times 10,000 and divide by use-dilution rate:

% active x 100,000

dilution rate

Examples :

Given active percentage of 4.5%

• At 1:256 (1/2 oz. per gallon) � (4.5 x 100,000) ¸ 256 = 176 ppm active.

• At 1:128 (1 oz. per gallon) � (4.5 x 10,000) ¸ 128 = 352 ppm active.
